Is English widely spoken?
Yes. Wherever you go, you will usually find someone who speaks good English. Shop signs are usually in both English and Arabic. It is also easy to find speakers of other European languages, as Dubai is a melting-pot of so many different nationalities.

Is it safe?
Yes, very much so. Street crime in Dubai is very low, but please observe the usual precautions you would take in an urban environment. Unless you need to carry items with you, we suggest you use the safes that are provided in our properties.

How easy is it to buy European food items?
No problem. Local supermarket chains such as Spinneys and Choitram, and Géant and Carrefour in the big malls have an extremely wide range of familiar products.

How can I get around Dubai?
Hire car or taxi is the best choice. It is safe to walk, although most people don't because of the heat and dust.

Are there any clothing restrictions?
Dubai takes a more relaxed attitude to dress code than many other Arab countries. See our advice page for further information.

Can I drink alcohol?
Yes, although it is not freely available to purchase in supermarkets and local shops. See our advice page for further information.

What is the best time to visit Dubai?
It depends on your temperature tolerance and on how you intend to spend your holiday.

In the warmest months (June-September), the climate can be extremely hot (over 40C), but the best way to approach it is as if it were the opposite to a European winter, spending as little time as possible outdoors, and as much time as possible in air-conditioned indoor facilities such as properties, shopping malls etc.

For the remainder of the year, sun and blue skies are almost guaranteed, with very few rain days each year.

Is Dubai suitable for babies and small children? One of the big advantages of self-catering is that you can follow your baby or child's usual routine on holiday, with foods that they recognise. International brands of baby formula, baby foods and nappies can be purchased in supermarkets, and we would be happy to check if a particular item or brand is on sale before your arrival.

There are baby and toddler-friendly activities all over Dubai, from indoor soft-play areas to paddling pools, and they are welcomed in most cafes and restaurants.

Provided you take appropriate sun protection precautions (suncream, hats, and sun protection suits advisable for long periods outdoors), there is no reason why you could not enjoy a holiday in Dubai with your young ones at any time of year.

And, most important of all, we can arrange babysitting to give Mum the occasional night off!

Can you supply baby equipment?
Cots, highchairs and stair gates are available upon request. Please notify us on your booking form. Car seats are usually available on request from car hire firms.

Top

Are your self catering properties suitable for elderly or disabled people?
All our apartment blocks have lift access, but please check before you book if you have specific requirements.

Top

Will I need a plug adapter for electrical appliances?
UK-style 3-pin plugs are standard in Dubai.
