The main form of transport in Dubai is the car, and the bigger, the better! Four-wheel drive vehicles are extremely popular with the locals.
Although some bus services do exist, they are rarely used by tourists, and timetable and route information is not widely available.
Taxis are clean and reasonably-priced, and a good option if you do not feel confident about finding your way around.
The first line in Dubai's new Metro (light railway) is due to open in September 09, and runs parallel with Sheikh Zayed Road. It will link Ibn Battuta Mall, the Marina and the Mall of the Emirates with Dubai International Aiport. Further lines are due to open during 2010 spanning Dubai's major residential and commercial areas.
Driving in the UAE is on the right.
Please be aware that road signs may not be as helpful as you might expect, and ongoing construction projects mean that diversions and road closures are an inevitable
part of driving in Dubai. Heavy traffic at rush hours can also affect journey times, so please plan your travel accordingly.
